We’re Hiring: Development Assistant/Coordinator

BWJP is the national non-profit leader at the intersection of gender-based violence and the law. BWJP is a dynamic collection of national policy and practice centers which provide support, education, best practice, and innovation to advocates, systems professionals, community leaders, and policy experts. BWJP advocates for survivors of gender-based violence with both civil and criminal resources, training, and consulting. We believe in creating systemic change that acknowledges the nuances and complexities that exist within the world of gender-based violence.

Position Overview

The Development Assistant/ Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for external stakeholders for government, corporate, private and family foundations, and individual funding opportunities. The Development Assistant/ Coordinator provides strategic management of the external relations portfolio and develops and maintains systems to support the growth and overall professionalism of the organization. They collaborate on overall strategic vision while independently managing the details of the strategic vision; pitch, develop, and structure complex cause-related marketing strategies; successfully integrate communications and marketing strategies with relationship building. BWJP is seeking an individual who is detailed oriented and highly motivated, with strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity. They must have excellent organizational skills
and be able to manage multiple high-level priorities at the same time. A successful candidate will handle job responsibilities with discretion and professionalism. They will report to the Chief Executive of External Relations (“CEER”) and be a part of the External Relations team.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Creates and writes compelling fundraising communications for a variety of funders at all stages of the cultivation process, including letters of inquiry, proposals, annual reports, and donor follow up.
  • Conducts preliminary funder research and evaluate foundation prospects.
  • Partners with the CEER and/or other staff on the External Relations team to design strategies to engage, solicit, and steward potential prospects.
  • Develops, monitors, and evaluates internal processes for monitoring fund development for grants, foundations, and private funding.
  • Produces acknowledgement letters, donor correspondence, donor reports, and mailing lists for major gifts and direct marketing teams
  • Assists with the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns
  • Maintains BWJP’s donor databases and ensure accuracy of donor information.
  • Manages BWJP’s grant writing processes by communicating key deadlines, monitoring the progress of writing teams, and managing drafts of proposals.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional work experience. Preferred majors include communications, marketing, development, or non-profit management.
  • 2 + years of development experience.
  • A demonstrated interest in gender-based violence issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other office productivity tools, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
  • The desire to learn and develop internal systems and processes.
  • Collaborative, team player; high level of professionalism, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure accuracy of information.

Logistics

  • $55,000 to $62,500 per year based on experience, plus health, dental, vision, retirement, short/long term disability and life insurance, vacation, sick, and holiday pay.
  • This is a primarily virtual position, with occasional in-person work.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Typical hours are 8:30 am- 4:30 pm ET; there will be evening or weekend work on occasion.
  • Candidates can be considered for the Assistant or Coordinator role based on their qualifications and experience.
