Women’s History Month 2023- Patrice Tillery

This month, in honor of Women's History Month, we are honoring Rising Stars and Mothers of the Movement.

This month, in honor of Women's History Month, we are honoring Rising Stars and Mothers of the Movement. Today, we are highlighting Rising Star, Patrice Tillery.

Patrice Tillery graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology and Spanish. She has an extensive background in management, working in luxury retail management for over 10 years, and managing an annual sales volume of over $10 million. She is also an entrepreneur and has her own event planning company she started in 2011. Through her diverse work experience, Patrice learned that her greatest and most transferable skill was her character, specifically her ability to lead. This is a characteristic that she has carried with her throughout her life and career.

Patrice’s personal experience as a survivor of domestic abuse incited a passion for women’s issues and being a voice for other women and is ultimately what led her to pursue gender-based violence work. She attributes her path to BWJP as being a perfect intersection of achieving her purpose and growing her professional skills. She understands the diverse nuances of gender-based violence and is excited to use her skillset to diversify the staff and experience at BWJP. Patrice feels that advocating for and working with women is her calling and she is grateful to have the opportunity to be exposed to GBV work in a professional environment.

As Development Coordinator, Patrice acts as the “Chief Relationship Officer”, connecting with donors, and maintaining and creating relationships with partners, supporters, and advocates of BWJP’s work and mission. She is excited to deepen the scope of her role by introducing more events that BWJP supporters and donors can attend, and by creating more partnerships with other organizations in the GBV field. She also has the goal of securing more media relationships and growing our footprint to make it easier for survivors, advocates, and systems professionals to find us.

Patrice is a single mother to two daughters and considers being a mother her primary responsibility in life. Raising well-rounded, kind, and independent young women is her motivation for being successful – she knows and owns that her success inspires others, especially her daughters and other young black girls who she has the opportunity of connecting with or crossing paths with.
