We’re excited to welcome Annie to our team! With over 20 years in the gender-based violence field and extensive experience in systems change and training, Annie’s leadership will strengthen our efforts to enhance victim safety and accountability. We’re thrilled to have her on board! - Amy J. Sánchez, CEO BWJP

Meet Annie:

Q: What brought you into the field of gender-based violence?

I came into the work straight out of college, and was fortunate to land at a great organization, Rose Brooks Center. I learned so much from my colleagues there, but primarily I learned from, and was inspired by, the survivors with whom I worked. The persistence and resilience of the survivors I’ve worked with over the years continues to inspire and motivate me.

Q: What drew you to BWJP?

The experts at BWJP staff have assisted me and supported my work in many ways over the years. I frequently reached out to them to draw upon their extensive knowledge and national lens to inform the local work I was doing. The effect of firearms on domestic violence victim-survivors has always been a particular interest and focus area of mine, and when the NRCDVF had an opening, I eagerly applied.

Q: What are you most looking forward to working at BWJP?

I am most looking forward to providing the support and assistance to communities that I received from BWJP at my local program. There are people doing great work all over the country to reduce domestic violence homicides, and I am excited to be a resource for them.

Q: How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

My two boys, Paul (16) and Tommy (12), keep my spouse Ben and I very busy with a variety of activities. When we’re not attending their sporting events, we like to follow our local teams, especially the Kansas City Royals and Sporting KC.
