BWJP Welcomes Saba Ghori, MA, MPA, as the new Director for The Center on Global Rights For Women

Saba Ghori is a seasoned diplomat and development expert, having worked for over two decades as an advocate for women’s rights for both the US Government and different NGOs, including Women for Women International and Vital Voices. At Women for Women International, Saba oversaw and designed their social empowerment programs focused on gender-based violence, men’s engagement, advocacy, and women’s leadership. At Vital Voices, Saba managed their human rights and violence against women programming, including the Voices Against Violence initiative and led Vital Voice’s crisis response efforts to evacuate and support Afghan women leaders.

Prior to that, Saba was a Senior Gender Advisor at the Department of State including the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues, the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and US Embassy Islamabad, where she oversaw, developed, and managed millions of dollars in rule of law, gender, political empowerment, entrepreneurship, and human rights programming as well as public private partnerships.

Saba has dedicated her life to tackling violence against women and girls and has invested her time in numerous anti-domestic violence organizations such as Saheli, the Asian Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project, ASHA, and Peaceful Families Project.

Saba has a joint Master's Degree in Public Policy and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, with a focus on women's rights in Islam. In her spare time, Saba enjoys spending time traveling, watching movies, and dreaming of becoming an artist :)

Saba's extensive and well rounded career in advocacy makes her perfect to spearhead this new center. Her dedication to global rights for women makes her a great addition to BWJP. - Amy J. Sánchez, CEO BWJP

Meet Saba

Q: What brought you into the field of gender-based violence?

I have personally witnessed how culture and religion can be misused to justify the abuse and control of women. That experience, combined with seeing how patriarchy limits women’s lives, led me to dedicate my career to challenging these systems—first within my own immigrant community and later in communities around the world.

Q: What drew you to BWJP?

I was drawn to BWJP’s deep history as a pioneer in addressing domestic violence in the United States, and the opportunity to bring an international lens to that work. At a time when women’s rights are under attack both at home and globally, I believe there is enormous value in connecting U.S. and international movements to share strategies and strengthen collective impact.

Q: What are you most looking forward to working at BWJP?

I look forward to learning from my colleagues and contributing to an exchange of ideas that bridges national and international perspectives. Connecting the dots between global trends and local realities is something I am especially excited about.

Q: How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

Enjoy spending time traveling, watching movies, and dreaming of becoming an artist :)
