BWJP was thrilled to host an in-person open house at our office in St. Paul, MN to welcome our newest center, the Center on Global Rights for Women. We were able to welcome over 60+ attendees, including our community partners, BWJP staff and long-term supporters from Global Rights for Women (GRW) into our home office. (It was packed!)
Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to meet each other and hear from BWJP about how the merger supports our mission to be a survivor-centered resource for ending gender-based violence globally.
Lynn Anderson, former GRW board chair, and now a member of BWJP’s board of directors, kicked off the evening by sharing introductions of key leaders and inviting Global Rights for Women supporters, BWJP team members, and community organizations and individuals to join together to advance justice for survivors around the world.
Both Amy Sánchez, BWJP’s CEO and BWJP’s board chair Laura Castellanos, who came from San Francisco to attend the event, spoke about the strategic alignment between BWJP and Global Rights for Women and our collective mission to end gender-based violence through systems and legal reform. Cheryl Thomas, founder of Global Rights for Women said she is thrilled the new Center on Global Rights for Women will continue working at the request of in-country human rights leaders leading efforts to end gender-based violence.
Building Capacity to Support Survivors
Sánchez highlighted the merger’s purpose in her remarks, “It is important for us as an organization to double-down on global solidarity during this time of administrative turbulence and do everything we can to build our capacity to support survivors, locally and globally.” BWJP as a staff and organization is positioned to take its expertise to partners around the world for even greater impact.
It was also a gathering where attendees embraced optimism and hope for a future where we are stronger together. We also extend a note of gratitude to María Ruiz Méndez for her work organizing the event. BWJP is excited about what we will be able to accomplish on behalf of survivors through these new and continuing partnerships.
