Amicus Brief: Robertson v. Watson

Published by: Sandra Tibbetts Murphy

In this case, the petitioner obtained a civil protection order, which the defendant later violated. Petitioner sought to enforce the civil protection order by filing a private action for contempt when the prosecution office declined to do so. Defendant argued that such a private action was impermissible. In this brief, amici argued the necessity of maintaining private contempt actions as effective means of remedying and preventing protection order violations.
