BWJP is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader to serve as the SAVES National Clearinghouse Project Director. With this position you will be at the forefront of the movement to create systemic change that saves lives.
The Battered Women’s Justice Project (BWJP) is a collective of national policy and practice centers at the intersection of gender-based violence (GBV) and legal systems. Our mission is to promote change within the civil and criminal legal systems to enhance their effectiveness in providing safety, security, and justice for survivors of gender-based violence, their families, and communities.
About SAVES National Clearinghouse:
The Safe Access for Victims Economic Security (SAVES) National Clearinghouse is tasked with providing comprehensive training and technical assistance support to 13 child support programs in 12 states and 1 tribe to increase safe access to child support and parenting time services for victims/survivors of intimate partner violence. In addition to providing training and technical assistance to demonstration sites, the SAVES Center also develops and offers a comprehensive array of technical assistance and training resources for state, tribal, and local child support agency staff, judicial officers and court staff involved in child support hearings, domestic violence service providers, legal services providers, and other related public and private agencies; compiles and maintains a national clearinghouse of promising practices for safe access to child support and parenting time services in states, tribal, and local child support agencies and court systems; and conducts and disseminates national research on intimate partner violence victims'/survivors’ barriers and needs related to child support and parenting time services.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of the National Legal Center on Children and Domestic Violence (NLCCDV,) the SAVES Project Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight to advance the center’s mission of increasing safe access to child support and parenting time services for victims/survivors of intimate partner violence and their children. This position requires a combination of project management skills, technical expertise, and effective communication to drive positive change in this critical area. In addition, this position involves working collaboratively with project partners and key stakeholders, including government agencies, nonprofits, advocacy groups, and community organizations.
Responsibilities:
• Implement project plans, objectives, and strategies in alignment with BWJP’s mission and values and the strategic vision for the center.
• Oversee and coordinate daily operations in partnership with staff and partners.
• Supervise and provide guidance to a team of four grant-funded staff, as well as contracted consultants, and interns. Willingness to utilize a shared leadership model, in which supervisors are viewed as resources rather than managers, and in which all staff are empowered to take initiative and encouraged to exercise discretion and autonomy.
• Maintain compliance with grant requirements. Monitor progress and ensure adherence to timelines. Prepare regular reports on project activities, outcomes, and impact for funders.
• Participate in budget preparation and monitoring of expenses.
• Build and maintain effective partnerships with government agencies, project partners, and key stakeholders, such as child support professionals, judicial officers, legal professionals, victim advocates, and survivors, to promote collaborative solutions and policy changes.
• Oversee the creation and delivery of training programs, workshops, and educational materials for diverse audiences, including professionals working in the gender-based violence field, child support and legal professionals, judicial officers, and community members. Develop and maintain a network of subject matter experts to serve as resources on this topic. Consult with other allied organizations or government agencies on related local or national projects, upon request.
• Develop, review, and edit technical assistance materials, articles, guides, resources, and publications.
• Collaborate with project partners, legal experts, and policymakers and assist in the development of policies, guidelines, regulations, and recommendations aimed at enhancing access and safety in the child support process for victims of intimate partner violence.
• Promote BWJP and the SAVES Center’s mission and goals through various communication channels including conferences, meetings, policy discussions, and other public forums.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Masters or J.D. required. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the fields of gender-based violence, family law policy and practice, training and technical assistance, project management, team management, or related areas required. Previous experience in child support establishment and enforcement, program development, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.
• Experience in managing teams and fostering a collaborative work environment rooted in shared leadership.
• Experience enriching and working collaboratively with individuals from differing backgrounds.
• Knowledge of the range of legal and social issues involving gender-based violence. Deep knowledge and expertise in addressing the complex dynamics and intersection of intimate partner violence and child support, particularly as it impacts children, survivors, and persons who cause harm including relevant laws and regulations, research findings, and best practices.
• Ability to apply critical thinking and intersectional analysis to identify and promote effective policies and practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues to diverse audiences. Experience in public speaking, media engagement, and public relations is highly desirable.
• Experience developing accessible curricula that facilitate adult learning. Experience training at the local, state, or national level preferred.
• Experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or human trafficking from traditionally excluded, underrepresented, and/or underserved communities; in particular, victims who are BIPOC and/or LGBTQI+ and living at multiple identity intersections preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team in a remote environment.
• Deep commitment to ending gender-based violence and an understanding of how interpersonal and institutional power, privilege, and oppression affect the lives of survivors. Demonstrated commitment to supporting race equity and cultural humility in prior professional experiences.
• Willingness and ability to travel nationwide up to 30% of the time.
Position: Full-time exempt
Location: Remote position
Salary: $110,000 -$120,000 annually based on experience.
