Inspire and Lead Community Dialogue about the Intersection of Guns and Domestic Violence
Every day in this country, survivors of intimate partner violence are living under constant threat of a gun in the hands of their abuser. Nearly 6 million women have been threatened or harmed by their abuser with a gun. And their abuser’s access to a firearm makes it five times more likely that a woman will be killed by her partner. In fact, every month in the U.S., more than 70 women are killed by their intimate partner with a firearm and often this violence spills out community-wide.
Most alarming about these numbers is that every single one was preventable. When survivors seek the protections available through the legal system, gaps have a human cost. We are working with communities, inside the legal system, and alongside survivors, to make sure that the people most at risk from intimate partner gun violence, often women trying to leave, are not left to navigate that danger alone.
